Karishma Manzur Visits Programs Supporting Food-Insecure Families in Concord

CONCORD, N.H. — Tomorrow, U.S. Senate candidate Karishma Manzur will visit Fresh Start’s farm stand in Concord, a program by the Organization for Refugee and Immigrant Success (ORIS) that brings together local refugee farmers and people experiencing food insecurity.

WHERE: Farm stand at 173 Loudon Road in Concord (behind Morningstar Condos)
WHEN: Friday, August 21 at 4:00 pm
WHO: Karishma Manzur, US Senate candidate, will be joined by ORIS Farmers.

Manzur is championing a policy platform to improve the lives of Granite Staters through livable wages, affordable housing, and universal health coverage under Medicare for All.

“In the richest country in the world, 1 in 7 households don’t have enough to eat. Around 14 million children are growing up without access to sufficient quantities of healthy food. This should be a national emergency concern. Yet too many politicians from both parties are failing to end the suffering of Americans while they continue to serve their wealthy donors,” said Manzur. “Across New Hampshire, I have met families struggling to survive with skyrocketing food, gas, and housing costs, and it’s getting worse year after year.”

“Local groups like Fresh Start Farm are stepping up to fill the gaps as NH’s federal delegation and governor are failing to help the people of New Hampshire.”

At ORIS, we support immigrant and refugee farmers who in turn help New Hampshire families access fresh and healthy food,” said Mukhtar Idhow, Executive Director of ORIS. “Unfortunately, the federal government is rewarding large scale agricultural operations, leaving local farmers who supply local markets completely out of the picture. The recent Farm Bill passed by the House is a perfect example: it supports industrial farmers and large-scale producers, while small farmers are left behind struggling to access grants, land, and farm equipment that is critical to operate.”

Media are welcome to attend. Manzur will be available for interviews.
