Karishma Manzur to Join NH Seniors, Call for Stronger Social Security at Senior Citizens Day Celebration
Concord Event Will Honor Older Granite Staters Making a Difference in Their Communities
CONCORD, NH — U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Karishma Manzur will join New Hampshire seniors and community leaders on Wednesday, August 19, for a Senior Citizens Day celebration at Havenwood Heritage Heights in Concord. Manzur will highlight the contributions of older Granite Staters and call for stronger protections for Social Security.
The event will recognize New Hampshire seniors who continue to strengthen their communities through volunteerism, civic engagement, advocacy, and service, with several Granite Staters sharing stories about their work to make the state a better place.
Among those being recognized is Third Act NH member Bill Coder, a retired electrical engineer and now a certified volunteer coach and energy liaison who helps New Hampshire residents learn about clean energy and electrification.
Manzur will deliver remarks on the need to expand and protect Social Security, including by lifting the cap on wages subject to Social Security taxes, taxing investment income, and updating the outdated formula used to calculate Social Security’s annual cost-of-living adjustment. She will also speak about the importance of ensuring that older Americans can live with dignity and financial security and the vital role seniors continue to play in civic life and in shaping the future of New Hampshire.
“New Hampshire’s seniors have spent lifetimes building our communities, caring for their families, and fighting to leave the world better than they found it,” said Manzur. “Senior Citizens Day is a celebration to honor what older Granite Staters have contributed, and recognize how much they are still contributing today. Their experience, wisdom, and determination are indispensable to the future of our state.”
Climate activist and author Bill McKibben will also share a recorded message with attendees. McKibben founded Third Act in 2021 to organize Americans over 60 to use their experience, skills, and influence to address climate change and protect democracy. Third Action has grown into a nationwide movement of older Americans egnaged in climate and civic action.
