U.S. Senate Candidate Karishma Manzur’s Statement: Abolish ICE and Build a Humane Immigration System

EXETER, NH (January 27, 2026) – In the last month, ICE has increased its lawlessness in Minnesota, with violent operations ripping people from their homes, schools and cars without due process. These actions have spread fear throughout communities and culminated with the murder of two civilians, Renée Good and Alex Pretti. This comes as Congress continues to fund the agency, without any guardrails in place.

Below is a statement from U.S. Senate Candidate Karishma Manzur on ICE:

“The crisis unfolding in Minnesota, including the fatal shootings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by federal immigration enforcement agents, is horrifying and unacceptable. These incidents have rightfully sparked national outrage and require thorough, independent investigations.

For decades, Congress has funded and empowered ICE without effective oversight. That lack of accountability has led to ICE acting as a paramilitary force, operating with impunity in communities across this country.

That’s why I support repealing the multi-year $75 billion funding, abolishing ICE, and replacing it with a humane immigration enforcement system under the Department of Justice. The new agency must have clear oversight, transparent standards for use of force, and robust protections for civil rights.

We must hold federal agents accountable when they violate the rights and lives of our citizens and residents, but this crisis did not arise in a vacuum. Too many members of Congress, including Rep. Chris Pappas, voted for the Laken Riley Act, which enabled the unchecked growth of ICE. Furthermore, it gave political cover to President Donald Trump to deploy federal agents like an occupying army.

This is exactly why I am running for the U.S. Senate. Our country desperately needs fresh leadership, courageously willing to confront entrenched systems of power, defend civil rights, and build a fair and humane immigration system that ensures dignity and fairness while securing the border. Such a system will reflect our nation’s values as a nation of immigrants.”
