Letter: Misconstrued Manzur on Lakin-Riley Act

Union Leader | LTE by John S. Hancock, Concord

evin Landrigan’s article titled “In U.S. Senate bid, Karishma Manzur vows to fight corruption.” It was disheartening to see that this article completely misconstrued her position regarding the Laken Riley Act. Karishma Manzur most assuredly does not oppose arresting violent criminals, but the article made it seem as though she does; nothing could be further from the truth.

ICE is not only illegally arresting people who’ve committed no crimes, they’re being held for long periods of time without ever being charged with violations of the law. They’re being unjustly imprisoned in deplorable conditions. In 2025 some 32 people reportedly died in ICE custody.

Also, ICE has been cited by many courts for violating court orders.

Karishma Manzur is very clear about her objections to the Laken Riley Act that empowers ICE to terrorize our communities even to murder American citizens. At the same time, Manzur is a law-and-order candidate who supports our town, county and state law enforcement officers. She wants to make sure our communities are safe and that anyone who is a public safety threat is legally arrested and prosecuted according to the law.

I request that the Union Leader accurately report Karishma’s assessment of the Laken Riley law and how its enforcement is being unjustly applied, negatively impacting families across America.
